Ting-ting-clang, wake up your morning. CafeSing COD Series Espresso Accessories, including COD-Espresso-Portafilter, COD-Coffee-Powder-Container, and COD-Espresso-WDT. I redesigned them for a simple reason, existing tools didn’t align with my usage habits or aesthetics.
Material — 100% Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is my favorite material. It produces a crisp, pleasant sound—unlike the harsh noise of aluminum. After mirror polishing, it shines brilliantly. It’s durable, rust-resistant, and easy to clean with a simple rinse. Plus, holding stainless steel in my hand gives me a comfortable sense of weight.
I once considered making a hand coffee grinder entirely from stainless steel, but its weight would exceed 900g, making it unsuitable for prolonged gripping of over 20 seconds. However, stainless steel is the perfect material for accessories used in espresso or pour-over coffee preparation.
For these accessories, I wanted to create a pure aesthetic, so I didn’t mix in other materials, and I made the COD-Espresso-Portafilter, COD-Coffee-Container, and COD-Espresso-WDT entirely out of stainless steel.
COD-Espresso-Portafilter
My most urgent need for an espresso portafilter was for it to sit stably and horizontally on a table.
The COD-Espresso-Portafilter achieves this effortlessly—it can rest flat on a table at a perfect 180° without any wobbling. Once the espresso basket is inserted, it also remains level. This means I no longer need to always keep one hand on the portafilter. I can freely use both hands to handle coffee powder and perform Dose-In, WDT, Distribution, and Tamp directly on the table, making the process easy and comfortable.
The COD-Espresso-Portafilter is highly compatible. It fits most 58mm double-ear Espresso Group Heads and is also compatible with the Flair 58 espresso maker. Its bottomless design accommodates various 58mm filter baskets, including 22g round-bottom baskets. The mountain-cutout design allows me to observe the espresso flow from any angle.
Note: To pick up the COD-Espresso-Portafilter, first lift the Portafilter's double-ear with one hand to disengage them from the table, then grasp the Portafilter's handle with the other hand.
COD-Coffee-Powder-Container
My most significant requirement for a coffee powder container was that it needed to be an excellent transporter.
Some friends prefer drinking one type of coffee bean for a while, storing it in an electric grinder’s hopper; I own five varieties and weigh out single doses for each brew. Thus, having a convenient way to transfer coffee beans and powder is essential for me.
The COD-Coffee-Powder-Container is a meticulously designed multi-purpose tool. Paired with the COD-Espresso-Portafilter and COD-Espresso-WDT, it allows for comfortable and elegant operations, including Weighing, Grinding, Collecting, SHAKE, Aroma Appreciation, Dose-in, WDT, Clean.
The space between the bottom of the rod and the basket is optimized for vertical coffee powder release, and the generous 73mm opening makes it convenient to catch powder from an electric grinder. Its interior is designed with extra space—it can hold up to 50g of coffee beans—ensuring ample room for SHAKE. When paired with the COD-Espresso-Portafilter and COD-Espresso-WDT, its depth serves as a wall for the espresso basket, allowing the WDT tool to stir freely inside without causing spillage.
Its specially grooved bottom securely holds the 58mm espresso basket; It is also available for 54mm baskets (with a dosing receive ring) and AeroPress. Exterior finger curves for a comfortable grip and mirror-polished surfaces inside and out ensure smooth powder falling, excellent sealing, and leak-free water filling.
Note: Always press down on the spherical grip of COD-Coffee-Container with one finger to prevent coffee powder from leaking during SHAKE and WDT.
COD-Espresso-WDT
My top priority for the WDT tool was ensuring a safe, appropriate length.
The COD-Espresso-WDT features a handle of just the right length for both finger and palm grip; the combined length of the handle and needle is ideal for easy insertion into the COD-Coffee-Container to the bottom of the espresso basket for effective stirring. Its retractable needle design, which pops out much like igniting a lightsaber, is visually cool and allows the needle to lock securely within the handle for independent placement, ensuring safety.
Note: Always retract needles after use (Be like a Jedi). The COD-Espresso-WDT is designed for tool-free disassembly. If the needle gets damaged, contact us for a replacement.
Espresso Workflow Guide
- Weighing Beans: Remove the lid from the COD-Coffee-Container, place it on the OWL coffee scale, and add 18g of coffee beans.
- Grinding Beans: Place the COD-Coffee-Container filled with beans onto the ORCA-GO Flat-Burr or GRIZZ-63 manual grinder, then shake the rod so the beans fall into the grinder for grinding.
- Collecting Powder: Remove the grinder's container and tap the inner wall of the COD-Coffee-Container with it so that the coffee powder falls into the COD container.
- SHAKE: Secure the lid on the COD-Coffee-Container, keeping one finger pressed on the ball-shaped grip of the rod at all times, and shake it with both hands.
- Aroma Appreciation: After shaking, the coffee powder releases a rich, intense aroma. The COD-Container’s open design allows the aroma to diffuse beautifully, making it ideal for dry aroma evaluation.
- Dose-In: Place the COD-Espresso-Portafilter, fitted with a basket, on the table. Then, set the COD-Coffee-Container on top of the portafilter and shake its rod so the espresso powder drops vertically into the basket.
- WDT: Without removing the COD-Coffee-Container, deploy the needle of the COD-Espresso-WDT and insert it into the container until it reaches the basket to stir and break up any clumps, ensuring an even distribution of the grounds.
- Distribution: Remove the COD-Coffee-Container and use a distribution tool directly on the COD-Espresso-Portafilter to level the powder.
- Tamp: Place the tamper directly on the COD-Espresso-Portafilter to compress the grounds.
- Extraction: Lift the Portafilter's double-ear with one hand, grip the handle with the other hand, and insert it into the Flair58 for extraction. Then, observe the espresso flow from the basket’s bottom.
- Clean: The COD-Espresso-Portafilter, COD-Coffee-Container, and COD-Espresso-WDT can all be rinsed with water to remove any remaining coffee grounds.
